Description

This a large antique serving porcelain bowl, made by the German manufacturer, Rosenthal. It has lovely wavy scalloped edges trimmed in gold with 2 bunches of grapes on a background that fades between yellow, dusty rose, and dark wine purple. This green backstamp, with the crown and R.C. under the glaze was used between 1891-1906. The porcelain design name, Monbijou, is also under the glaze. The bowl is just over 10 inches wide at its widest, and is in excellent antique shape with no chips cracks or crazing, which I checked with a high lumen flashlight. I also felt carefully around the scalloped edges and found no chips “hiding” there. There is a good bit of wear to the gold on the scalloped edges and there are utensil marks on the inside of the bowl. There is also some rub wear to the design just inside the scalloped edges. I see what looks like some green paint on the underside of the bowl that can be seen in pictures 17 & 18 where the bowl is upside down. So this bowl has been used, but well taken care of and is in excellent antique shape, despite being well over 100 years old!
